From May 7 to 12, Aline Yasmin — director of the non-profit association Espirito Mundo and festival curator, took part in the DOK.fest in Munich, Germany, as an expert and observer. Her participation reflected not only her personal engagement with cinema and human rights but also the experience of Espirito Mundo in organizing international film events, such as Cine Luso, a showcase dedicated to cinema from the Lusophone world that gives visibility to underrepresented voices and cross-cultural narratives.
This presence at DOK.fest allowed her to deepen the dialogue between artistic practices and human rights advocacy through cinema. The festival became a fertile ground for meaningful encounters — including with filmmaker Iara Lee, known for her politically engaged work, and Leonardo Cortana, coordinator of Eurodoc, who leads innovative approaches to inclusive film production. These exchanges enriched ongoing reflections on how cinema can challenge injustices and foster social transformation.
It was also an opportunity to meet other inspiring filmmakers and discover powerful documentary projects that engage critically with today’s world. From heartfelt conversations to future collaborations, this intense and vibrant week confirmed once again the crucial role of cinema as a tool for awareness, resistance, and connection.
Congratulations to the DOK.fest team for 40 years of commitment and impact — and for bringing it all together in the beautiful city of Munich.
