FR// La mission d’Espirito Mundo est également de lutter pour les droits de l’homme et l’environnement. Nous contribuons à plusieurs mouvements en Europe et sommes directement impliqués dans l’Alliance pour les peuples des forêts au Brésil par le biais du Comité Chico Mendes.
En Belgique, où l’association est basée, nous avons comme partenaires des mouvements citoyens tels que Rise For Climate et Extinction Rebellion avec lesquels nous collaborons, ainsi que des parlementaires européens impliqués dans la cause de l’Amazonie, comme le Parti de Gauche du Portugal (The Left EU).
Nous sommes conscients de notre devoir en tant que société civile d’articuler et de sensibiliser la société sur l’importance de s’unir et de créer des outils pour défendre notre planète.
La forêt amazonienne et les autres biomes du Brésil, comme le Cerrado, sont systématiquement attaqués. Le mouvement prédateur continue d’être protégé par une politique néo-libérale qui a pour seul objectif le profit. Des personnes sont assassinées pour avoir défendu l’environnement et s’être opposées à cette politique en vigueur sur toute la planète. Le Brésil est à leur tête en matière de violence contre les activistes, comme nous l’avons appris récemment par les répercussions internationales du meurtre du journaliste anglais Dom et du militant indigène Bruno. Ce n’est qu’un exemple parmi d’autres, et la violence à l’encontre des peuples se poursuit au quotidien.
Le continent européen, les États-Unis, la Chine et d’autres puissances sont la porte d’entrée de ces illégalités et il est essentiel de rechercher un organisme international pour discuter des moyens de contrôler le commerce international, ainsi que de rechercher des moyens de soutenir l’économie forestière de manière durable. C’est l’une des raisons pour lesquelles Angela Mendes vient en Europe pour célébrer la Journée de l’Amazone, le 5 septembre. A cette date, l’activiste participera à une session dédiée au thème de Amazonia Urgente à l’invitation du député José Gusmão (La Gauche/UE). En 2019, également en partenariat avec l’association Espirito Mundo et avec la députée européenne Marisa Matias (La Gauche/UE), elle était au Parlement à l’occasion du lancement de Cine Luso dont le thème était l’Environnement avec le lancement du film ” Empate ” aux côtés du réalisateur Sergio Carvalho et d’Aline Yasmin, directrice de l’association et organisatrice de la rencontre.
Angela Mendes, activiste et militante socio-environnementale, est une technologue en gestion environnementale. Elle préside actuellement le comité Chico Mendes et est un entrepreneur social Ashoka reconnu pour son travail avec les jeunes de la réserve extractive Chico Mendes à Acre.
En Europe, l’agenda prévoit d’importantes réunions en partenariat avec les associations locales : Coimbra (Forum Socialisme/Esquerda de Portugal), Amsterdam (Teatro Munganga), Paris (Autres Brésils), Londres (Gaia Fondation) et Bruxelles (Parlement européen/The Left/Rise for Climate).
Nous organisons une manifestation devant la gare centrale de Bruxelles le 4 à 16h, en partenariat avec des organisations et mouvements citoyens bruxellois, pour demander une réflexion urgente sur l’avenir planétaire face à la déforestation et à la violence contre les peuples. De missie van Espirito Mundo is ook te strijden voor de mensenrechten en het milieu. Wij dragen bij aan verschillende bewegingen in Europa en zijn rechtstreeks betrokken bij de Alliantie voor Bosbewoners in Brazilië via het Comité Chico Mendes.
In België, waar de vereniging is gevestigd, hebben we als partners burgerbewegingen zoals Rise For Climate en Extinction Rebellion met wie we samenwerken, alsook Europese parlementsleden die betrokken zijn bij de Amazonezaak, zoals de Linkse Partij van Portugal (The Left EU).
Wij zijn ons bewust van onze plicht als maatschappelijk middenveld om duidelijk te maken hoe belangrijk het is dat wij ons verenigen en instrumenten creëren om onze planeet te verdedigen.
Het regenwoud van de Amazone en andere biomen in Brazilië, zoals de Cerrado, worden systematisch aangevallen. De roofzuchtige beweging wordt nog steeds beschermd door een neoliberaal beleid waarvan het enige doel winst is. Overal ter wereld worden mensen vermoord die opkomen voor het milieu en zich verzetten tegen dit beleid. Brazilië is koploper op het gebied van geweld tegen activisten, zoals we onlangs hebben geleerd uit de internationale repercussies van de moord op de Britse journalist Dom en de inheemse activist Bruno. Dit is slechts één voorbeeld, en het geweld tegen mensen gaat dagelijks door.
Het Europese continent, de VS, China en andere mogendheden zijn de toegangspoorten tot deze illegaliteit en het is van essentieel belang dat er een internationaal orgaan komt om te bespreken hoe de internationale handel kan worden gecontroleerd en hoe de boseconomie op een duurzame manier kan worden gesteund. Dit is een van de redenen waarom Angela Mendes naar Europa komt om op 5 september de Dag van de Amazone te vieren. Op die datum zal de activiste op uitnodiging van EP-lid José Gusmão (La Gauche/EU) deelnemen aan een zitting over het thema “Amazonia Urgente”. In 2019 was zij, eveneens in samenwerking met de vereniging Espirito Mundo en met Europarlementslid Marisa Matias (La Gauche/EU), in het Parlement voor de lancering van Cine Luso, dat als thema het milieu had, met de lancering van de film “Empate” samen met regisseur Sergio Carvalho en Aline Yasmin, directeur van de vereniging en organisator van de bijeenkomst.
In Europa staan belangrijke ontmoetingen met lokale verenigingen op de agenda: Coimbra (Forum Socialismo/Esquerda de Portugal), Amsterdam (Teatro Munganga), Parijs (Autres Brésils), Londen (Gaia Foundation) en Brussel (Europees Parlement/De Linkerzijde/Rise for Climate).
Samen met Brusselse organisaties en burgerbewegingen organiseren we op de 4e om 16 uur een betoging voor het Centraal Station van Brussel om op te roepen tot een dringende bezinning over de planetaire toekomst in het licht van de ontbossing en het geweld tegen mensen. Wij nodigen u uit om deel te nemen.

Espirito Mundo’s mission is also to fight for human rights and the environment. We contribute to several movements in Europe and are directly involved in the Alliance for Forest Peoples in Brazil through the Chico Mendes Committee.

We are aware of our duty as a civil society to articulate and raise awareness about the importance of uniting and creating tools to defend our planet.
The Amazon rainforest and other biomes in Brazil, such as the Cerrado, are under systematic attack. The predatory movement continues to be protected by a neo-liberal policy whose only objective is profit. People are being murdered for defending the environment and opposing this policy that is in force all over the planet. Brazil leads the way in violence against activists, as we recently learned from the international repercussions of the murder of the English journalist Dom and the indigenous activist Bruno. This is just one example, and violence against peoples continues on a daily basis.
The European continent, the United States, China and other powers are the gateway to these illegalities and it is essential to seek an international body to discuss ways to control international trade, as well as to seek ways to support the forest economy in a sustainable way. This is one of the reasons why Angela Mendes is coming to Europe to celebrate Amazon Day on September 5. On that date, the activist will participate in a session dedicated to the theme of Amazonia Urgente at the invitation of MEP José Gusmão (The Left/EU). In 2019, also in partnership with the association Espirito Mundo and with the MEP Marisa Matias (The Left/EU), she was in the Parliament on the occasion of the launch of Cine Luso whose theme was the Environment with the launch of the film “Empate” alongside the director Sergio Carvalho and Aline Yasmin, director of the association and organizer of the meeting.
