Exit the Energy Charter – Treaty action in Brussels
Invited by “Friends for the Earth” Europe and in partnership with “Rise for Climate”, Espirito Mundo Asbl have produced a structure with a giant sword and masks of the European politicians Merkel, Rutte, Macron and Ursula.
The artistic project was realized by the artists Maria João Flôxo, Hernán Arambarri and Raquel Sáez Hita in collaboration with “atelier partagé”, Plexus Production and TomorrowMouvementNow at the SeeU in Ixelles, Brussels.

Le Traité sur la Charte de l’Énergie a été signé dans les années 1990 par 55 gouvernements dont les pays de l’Union Européenne pour réguler la coopération énergétique internationale et protéger les investissements dans la production d’énergie. Mais aujourd’hui il est utilisé par les grandes entreprises de ce secteur pour réclamer des dommages et intérêts colossaux aux états qui veulent se tourner vers les énergies renouvelables.

The Energy Charter Treaty was signed in the 1990s by 55 governments including EU member states to regulate international energy cooperation and to protect investments in energy production and transmission. But today it is used by multinational energy companies to claim billions in financial compensation from countries that seek to switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
